Public reminded to observe alternate-side parking
City of Duluth crews are tagging and towing an increasing number of vehicles due to their owners failing to observe alternate-side parking regulations.
The Department of Public Works and Utilities reminds citizens that not observing regulations can lead to unsafe situations not only for plow drivers and vehicles but for emergency workers, and citizens trying to navigate the streets. It also places improperly parked vehicles in danger of damage from collision.
Vehicle owners may shift their cars from odd to even side parking between 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sundays. The week of January 5-11 is an odd-numbered week, meaning cars should be park on the odd-numbered sides of Duluth streets. The schedule does not apply on streets where other posted signage is in effect.
Motorists' vehicles are tagged for a first offense but repeat offenses may lead to towing of the vehicle.
Copies of the 2004 parking schedule can be obtained by calling the Duluth Police Department Traffic Office at 730-5474. The schedule is also posted on the Department's website at http://www.dareduluth.org/PoliceSite/calpark.asp.
