PASSAIC COUNTY HAZARDOUS
WASTE COLLECTION DATE IN OCTOBER
PATERSON - County of Passaic, through the Office of Recycling and Natural Resource Programs, will hold a Household Hazardous Waste Collection 7:30 am to 2 pm Saturday, October 10 at the Passaic County Para-Transit Facility, located behind Ski Barn, 1310 Route 23 north in Wayne.
This event is free of charge to any Passaic County resident, said Nina Seiden, Passaic County Solid Waste and Recycling Programs Administrator.
Proof of residency is required. The event will run rain or shine.
Items that are accepted include pesticides and herbicides, propane tanks, solvents and thinners; varnishes and waxes, oil base paints and stains, lawn and pool chemicals and household cleaners and corrosives.
Acceptable materials for disposal also include household and automobile batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, used motor oil and antifreeze, old gasoline and oil mixtures, fire extinguishers, mercury switches and thermometers.
Medical waste and explosives are not acceptable for disposal, as well as radioactive material, tires, appliances, computers, smoke detectors or electronics.
Materials must be brought to the site in their original containers and be clearly marked.. Any oil, antifreeze or oil and gas mixtures should be brought to the collection in disposable containers.
Businesses may participate for a fee but must call ahead of time to register and obtain a price quote.
