BRIDGEWATERSomerset County teens in grades 7 through 12 are invited to attend a conference Thursday, Nov. 12, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Somerset County Vocational and Technical High School Technology and Conference Center on North Bridge Street and Vogt Drive.   Admission is free and includes refreshments.  Seating is limited to the first 100 students who register by the Nov. 5 deadline.

Topics will include volunteering for EMT and fire training; parental pressure in the home, school and community; communication through dialogue; and coping with parental unemployment.  Freeholder Peter S. Palmer, youth council liaison, will offer remarks.

“This is the 13th consecutive year that we have been offering this workshop and this year’s program again will provide useful and timely information for our youth,” said Freeholder Peter S. Palmer, youth council liaison.  “The conference is a fun way to meet other youth, learn lifelong skills and discuss relevant topics of interest and concern.”

The keynote speaker will be Amirah James of New Jersey Orators.  The topic will be “Define Yourself.”

New Jersey Orators is a non-profit organization established over two decades ago for youth 7 to 18 years of age to improve language skills in preparation for roles of leadership and employment.

At the workshop, REBEL (Reaching Everyone by Exposing Lies) will have a display.  Participants may help themselves to anti-tobacco literature and information on REBEL activities throughout the county.

The conference is sponsored by the Somerset County Board of Freeholders and the county Youth Council.

The conference planning committee consists of youth council members from Bernards, Bound Brook, Bridgewater-Raritan, Franklin, Hillsborough, Montgomery, North Plainfield, Ridge, Somerville, Watchung Hills Regional and Somerset County Vocational and Technical high schools and North Plainfield Middle School.
